Superintendent of Police is established.

[1801] New ordinance declares that the First Selectman is “Superintendent of Police.” The position is created for Charles Bulfinch and its salary allows him to continue as the unpaid Chairman of the Board of Selectmen. At the time, the force consists of 12 constables and 20 watchmen.
